The Unveiling of the IOLED Programme
October 6, 2017 alertng

4th of October 2017 will be evergreen in the hearts of many. On this day ALERT NIGERIA/IOLED was launched in the city of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, indeed it was epic and epochal as great leaders, both in the academic and entrepreneurial spheres came together to unveil a project which vision is to bring about an informed and engaged society that is deeply passionate and actively involved in effective leadership and entrepreneurship in Nigeria starting from the grassroots.

A welcome address by Prof.(Mrs.)Enoidem B. Usoro, Professor Enoidemthe chairman of IOLED Technical Working Committee opened the event. She expressed gratitude to all who came from both far and near to grace and add colour to the epochal event, she concluded her speech with a thought provoking conclusion and I quote;

           “We are convinced that youth entrepreneurship holds the key to socio-economic development of Nigeria. This is because youths are inherently creative and dynamic. As such, if their energies are productively channeled, then they can develop creative solutions to the many problems in our environment

A Documentary by Ernesto Sirolli followed later with the titled “Truly Sustainable Economic Development” this received raptly by the audience; follow this link to watch the video,

The Director of ALERT NIGERIA/IOLED, Mr. Iboro Otu didn’t hesitate to mount the podium to share the purpose for the gathering and with a tone of believe and hope for a better Nigeria starting from Akwa Ibom State, he said;

“I believe that we are here because we share a common love and hope for a better Nigeria and specifically, a more prosperous Akwa Ibom State. You can only be here because you are passionate as I am, about our people and communities. We will do something   starting   today, to   better our   lot”Mr. Iboro Otu

There was so much excitement as the attendees were kindled with the passion that lead to the birth of this vision. As the keynote address was presented by Prof.(Mrs.) Isongesit Solomon who stood-in for the Vice Chancellor, University Of Uyo, Prof. Enefiok Essien, SAN and she spoke on the topic;  Stimulating Youth Entrepreneurship and Leadership in Akwa Ibom state. This was such an apt presentation and she highlighted these cardinal points;

  • That there is increasing consensus that leadership and entrepreneurship are critical twins for sustainable development and a requirement for poverty reduction, gender equality and environmental sustainability.
  • That continuous complaint and mourning about the mistakes or inactions of yesterday and trading of blames will not bring the need solution. She said this attitude completely ignores the fact that yesterday is lost, gone and only serves as a lesson. Because this fact is ignored, the lessons are, in most cases, not learnt.
  • The present leaders or supposed leaders continuously do the same thing in the same way and expect a different result from what their predecessors had. This present failure ensures that the cycle of poverty continues. This makes the future very uncertain and without Ambassadors for Leadership and Entrepreneurship Responsibility for Tommorow’s Nigeria (AlertNigeria). It sometimes leaves us without hope.

And she ended her speech urging that youths needs an understanding of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and this was backed with a standing ovation from the attendees which was followed by the ushering in of Mr. Gossy to the podium

Mr. Gossy Ukanwoke Mr Gossy Ukanwokewho is the Founder BAU-Research and Development, a premiere online university in Nigeria shared his experience as an education innovator and disrupter, he pointed out how technology has enabled the existing public institutions to deliver courses to over a million students that can’t make it to the available spaces in our universities every year and after his mind blowing revelation, the IOLED Project was unveiled by special guests.

This was marked with the official flag-off of the Iboro Otu’s Leadership and Entrepreneurial Discourse Essay Competition which is targeted at indigenous students in Tertiary institution in Akwa Ibom State.
